REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE: For this repair, make sure you use the
2000–02
S2000 Service Manual
. This manual has an updated
transmission reassembly procedure.
1. Remove the transmission (see pages 13-5 through
13-11).
NOTE: Before you unplug the connectors for the
primary and secondary heated oxygen sensors,
mark or tag the connector locations to ensure
correct reinstallation. Incorrect reinstallation will
permanently damage the ECM.
2. Disassemble the transmission, and remove the
countershaft and the mainshaft (see pages 13-12
through 13-26).
3. Replace the mainshaft 3rd gear set and the
mainshaft 4th gear (see pages 13-30 through
13-35).
4. Reassemble the transmission (see pages 13-55
through 13-65).
NOTE: When you reinstall the select return spring,
make sure you preload the spring by crossing the
ends over the pin in the shift arm rod then insert the
8 x 40 mm pin between the spring ends.
5. Reinstall the transmission (see pages 13-66
through 13-72).
6. Fill the transmission with 1.7 quarts of Honda MTF.
7. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the
transmission works properly.
