EVENT: Rockin The Dragon 2013-Back Of The Dragon 2013

This will be the official thread to organize our huge Metro crew and convoy down to the double-header event in Virginia and Tennessee/North Carolina.

Rockin The Dragon 2013, And Back Of The Dragon 2013. This is a week long event, so now is the time to put in the time off work and give your employer a good long professional heads up.

This event is where many S2000 club around the country converge in one spot to get together, party, bbq, vacation in the mountains, and DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE

This annual event is coming up this April, official links and info will be edited right here in post #1 just after the new year. So check right here for all you need for info, and to attend.

TO JOIN THIS EVENT, YOU MUST:

1 register for the RtD event, here http://rtd13.eventbrite.com/
2 book your room or cabin at Fontana Village, which is near the dragon at the RtD event.
3 book your room for the first half of the event in virginia, Back Of The Dragon

 

OFFICIAL DATES:

We as a crew will decide our departure date. Whether it is Saturday the 6th, Sunday the 7th, or later. As of now I'm banking on leaving Monday after work, so you guys can squeeze that one work day in. We will see how it goes, with everyone's input.

Sunday April 7th is the start of Back of the Dragon in Virginia, the first half of the event. This is THEIR ITINERARY right now, which we can join in on:

General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion, VA on Sunday April 7 for 4 days of driving on roads that don't have semi's but do have a 55mph speed limit. A number of people will be meeting in Marion, VA to start Dragon Week off with some great driving roads. Rt 16 from Marion to Tazwell is one of the nicest roads in VA with 272 turns in 32 miles. There is no registration fee for this, simply make your reservation at the General Francis Marion Hotel and be prepared to have a great time. We have a special rate of $84/night for this event. Don't forget to ask for the "Back of the Dragon" rate. The phone number for reservations is: (877) 783-4802

On Wednesday, April 10, we'll do one more drive Back of the Dragon and then some people will be leaving for Little Switzerland to drive Rt 226a, a serious downhill drive that will challenge anyone. Others will be leaving to drive directly to Fontana for an early start on Rockin' the Dragon. You're welcome to get started early and do both events or only one. Either way, you're welcome.

Th Rockin the Dragon event in SC will start around Thursday, April 11th. This is when our Metro convoy will arrive in the area, Thursday afternoon. The event will go through until Sunday, April 14th.

END OF EVENT OPTIONS to go back home:

-Leave Sunday morning 7am with the FULL DAY CONVOY, drive 12-13 hrs straight, and return Sunday evening around 8pm. This will put you back home in time for work on Monday.

-Leave Sunday after lunch and moring drives with the SPLIT CONVOY, and arrive in Virginia around 7pm, in time for our PINK CADILLAC DINNER! Finish the drive back to the Metro area and arrive Monday afternoon 2-3pm ish, with the rest of the evening to relax and clean the car.

I will be leading the SPLIT CONVOY and taking 2 days to return.

Spots will be post along the route, with EXACT TIMES the convoy will pass your meet spot. We will have many cars, and stopping them is not an option. I will be contacting each one of you 1/2 proir to the convoy passing your meet spot. Meet spots will be organized later as the attendies list grows.

The convoy will leave Hampton Bays NY, and proceed as follows....

Long Island Expressway

Midtown tunnel

34 street across town

Down the west side highway and out the Holland Tunnel, onto I-78 west.

From I-78 West, we will pick up I-81 South all the way to the frist event, Back of the Dragon.
