Default Honda Replacment Key

I am only driving with just one key. So I decided to honda dealership today to order a spare key. As I walked up to the parts department and handed over my key for information, he asked what kind of key is this, I never seen one like this before. Then I told him it was a s2000, later he looked it up and was like WOW. I asked whats wrong. He said no wonder I never seen a key like this before, it was $250 plus labor to program the key. I was like what?!?

Daylight robbery! Order a blank, genuine OEM Honda s2000 key from ebay and have it programmed and cut by your trusted local locksmith. Done!

I walked out of the dealership laughing, because I could not believe it.

I believe you can get non-s2000 honda keys for much cheaper.

Last time I looked, they charged $150 ish for s2000 key and $35 for a regular.

Also, some dealership will cut and program for about $50 flat, so look around.

Buy this and take it to a locksmith. He will probably charge around $50-75 for cut and programing.

Dealers vary but that's not unusual pricing for a dealer. Try looking at existing threads on the topic.

Your statement is irrelevant, and without mentioning that you have a '02, it's also misleading. AP1 keys (#6) are regular keys. You could get a replacement AP1 key from most hardware stores.

AP2s have sidewinder/lasercut keys which cost a lot more and are handled by fewer people. In addition, the key part numbers can vary by year.

The '04-'05 AP2 has two types of regular keys. The fancy stylized S2000 key (#23)($125), which is really expensive, and the plain black, which is reasonable (#24)($22).

The '06-'07 AP2 has only one type of main key, which is the stylized S2000 key(#23)($97). It's more expensive than the '04-'05 AP2 plain key, but cheaper than the fancy S2000 key.

The '08+ AP2 goes back to stylized (#7)($84) and plain main keys(#6)

I got a quote for a programmed and cut key from a locksmith for $100. I'm not sure if they use the Honda blank or not. I never asked how much it would be if I brought my own blank.
