Which side of the dipstick to read?

Default Which side of the dipstick to read?

hey guys, one side of my dipstick reads that im full on oil, while the other reads i have half, which side should i be reading? im hoping someone else has the same issue haha, its hard to describe which side is which

there should be two holes in it...

I think he means one side of the dipstick is full to the 2 holes, but when you flip the dipstick the other side is in the middle. Mine did that and i was just went with the side that showed full

When I check the oil, I twist the dipstick back and forth a bit when its fully seated. That little wiggle seems to do the trick of equalizing both sides.

yea its when i flip it around, it reads different

Billman on here said if one side is low add oil, pm him or look for his post, he knows his stuff on s2000's

check both side, the lower masurement is the true one.

There should never be that kind of difference between one side to the other. At most, it would 1 to 1.5 "X's" (or 1.5 diamonds), in which case, it really doesn't matter which side you take as it's not a significant difference. Either you've got the car on an uneven surface or you're doing it wrong.

There is almost always a discrepancy between sides when I check my oil even when on a completely flat surface. I was always taught to read from the low side.
