Default Should my S2000 go sideways when the vtec kicks in?

I have owned my S2000 for about 6 months now, and have generally thoroughly enjoyed it. Good fun on the road, and even better on Track!

But one characteristic that does worry me is the way the car suddenly goes sideways when accelerating hard in 2nd gear, as the vtec cuts in. in a straightline, when the roads are a bit wet. Is this normal?

I know, obvious thing is to not do it. But I just wondered if my car has a problem. Tyres are the correct spec Bridgestones, with 3-4mm tread.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

What kind of performance mods do you have ?? My S2000 is basically stock, now if its wet you sure can lose traction but i never really go sideways ! Unless i do on purpose of course...

What year is it? - does it have the VSA? If an early model without the VSA there may be sufficient torque in 2nd going through VTEC to generate wheel spin on a wet surface.

Have you ever had an alignment done?
Do the tires have equal air pressure?
Are the rear wheels in fact on the rear of the car?
Are the tires directional? If so are they mounted properly?

Lots of things to look at. Also, shallow tread = replace in my book, especially for rain. I wouldn't be doing WOT acceleration in the rain either.

The car is a Uk 00, so no VSA.

Performance wise, it is effectively standard , K&N and airbox mod only.

The alignment has been done fairly recently, the pressures are 32 psi all round, Tyres are RE050 MZ's

Understand the comment about not WOT in the rain, but have never experienced a car snapping sideways under power whilst going in a straight line.

The only time iv had this happened in MY03 was when the road was wet on balding tires.

Really? I thought this was normal, I always put my 00' sideways even on dry streets, I take it REALLY easy when its wet cause I know the outcome...

that is normal. you are running a summer tire which is nearly worn out. The tires need to be warmed up to get full traction. So cold rubber + wet = sideways.

My advice. Upgrade to Dunlop Star Specs when the time comes for new tires.

FYI I put some used RE50s on my spare wheels for the sole purpose of having fun in the rain.
