Default From VORTECH SC to STOCK... Whats Needed ?!?! (S2k noob-help)

I just picked up my first AP1 2001 S2000 w a Vortech SC V2 kit, headers. Stock besides that. (~72k miles)

I have a rattle/chatter when the car is decelerating , coming from the Vortech unit. I put my hand on it when revving it up a bit and upon deceleration i can hear and feel the turbine unit rattle, and the pulley is not 100% straight..wobbles a tad i believe.

Video Added below :

some threads on v2 rattle: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...=557054&page=3

ANYWAYS, I contacted VORTECH themselves and i am planning to send it in for a MINOR REBUILD

(quoted for $ 390.00 PLUS shipping from MI to CA, and back i think)

Takes about 3 weeks they say, but everyone says its like 5 weeks :[

Car is my daily driver so i need to run stock untill that time..

----------

MY question is, when i do take off the SC kit, what checklist of things do i need to do, in order for me to run Stock for a while?

-new belt?

- oem ecu? (not sure if i have to unhook the black box)

-leave the black box on?

- get an intake unit?

- OTHER IDEAS PLEASE ADD ?!!

NEW TOY: :]

THANKS !

No new belt needed, you need stock crank pully, or remove the SC pulley from top of the stock and use it,

You need a retune OR, stock injectors and stock ecu together!

Intake, few hoses for oil and vacume lines
1 bolt for upper left part of timing chain cover on the engine block
Stock map sensor of your map sensor has been changed
Stock intake and 3 bolts that holds it in place

Thanks for the fast reply

SO far i have:

- belt
- stock crank pulley
- intake (+bolts)
- Hoses for oil lines
- Hoses for vac lines
- 1 timing chain cover bolt (upper left on engine block)
- stock map sensor
-

- As for the RETUNE & injectors..DO i really need that?

Since i have STOCK injectors right now, with the Black Box (original software from vortech kit)
Would i need a retune? or can i just unplug it or do i need to even do that?

Thanks again guys !

I think you are over thinking it. You should be able to just pull off the SC unit and drive around just fine with the stock intake without changing anything (or just use the vortech intake off the throttle body if you don't have the intake). The black box is only going to do anything if it is seeing boost I believe. Since this is only a temporary removal, and not returning it to stock permanently, you should be able to leave everything there. In fact, I would even consider leaving the aftercooler in there and throw a filter on the port that would normally go to the supercharger. This would save you from having to deal with removing the bumper to drain the coolant. I'm not sure if the aftercooler would be too heavy to only be supported by the throttle body though...

List of what I know you will need:
The 3 OEM screws that hold the vtec oil assembly in place, since the ones you are using right now are way too long because they feed through the vortech mount. (make sure you use the gasket when installing this assembly)
The 2 small oem screws that are replaced by studs from vortech holding the lower support block in place.
The oem screw & washer that bolt the idler pulley in place. Vortech replaces those with the mount coming out of the pulley and a very long bolt.

Check this photo:

The red circle on the pulley is where you need the stock pulley bolt & washer. The 2 top circles - you will need the oem bolts that go there, or just leave that bracket there if you don't have them. The lines indicate the studs going through that lower mounting block. You will need to replace those with the small oem bolts. Those I know are m6x1 and approx 30mm long if you don't have them. I don't know the rest of the bolts though, hopefully you just have them - especially the one for the pulley, that's a specialty bolt.

Looking at the pic now, i see that he is using the vortech FMU. So i'm 99.99% he is using the stock vortech setup. SO just leave those plug in like I originally mentioned. (1 less headache to worry about

Good luck and have fun once you get all of it setup. 300whp is nice, but it'll get old real quick and you'll want more. lol
Yeah the car is 100% stock - besides headers and the vortech kit.
Alright, that clears alot of confusion, and is more along what i was picturingid have to do.

Sweet! So basically just remove the SC Snail, and maybe the aftercooler, il substitute the intake if i can (i have no stock box) and lastly il try and use some bolts.

But what do you guys think about the rattle?
http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/q...2-12-24_56.mp4

is it just a bearing probably? Im fairly new at s2000's AND sc'ers..

From what ive researched, it seems as if Vortech went with shitty-er company during the V2 series for the bearings, and everyone had to fix em evantually (after 10k miles) Mynes got like 12K ish.

THANKS again!

it could be as simple as needing a new woodruff key on the pulley.
