AP1 wont shift into 6th
Hi everyone. My AP1,MY2003 started yesterday to refuse to go into six gear underany circumstance. Engine off or engine runing, double clutch, speed matching nothing lever wont move at all from the neutral position. Trans has 65K on it and has never made a noise, no grinds, no growls. Its always shifted perfect no matter what. Trans. fluid is new and the old stuff looked new, nothing except paste on the mag plug. Cluth works great all other ashifting into 2-5 is perfect. I've looked at the service manual and don't see anything that cause this. One minute it work next nothing doing,
Please help decide the next move to make next. Is there a Honda technician or a race team member that has experience inside this trans that i could talk to?

This is caused by skip shifting.
You have a burr on the 5th gear side of the gear collar. The isssue it actually a fifth gear problem. The cog will not come fully out of 5th to allow 6th gear operation.
I have fixed this completely in 5 minutes. you may be as lucky.
Car on level ground, engine off, ebrake off, clutch pedal depressed in.
From fifth gear, try to flick the shifter into 6th at high speed. Use a good amount of force, but not gorrila force.
If it goes in, continue to row it back and forth rapidly between 5th and 6th, about 100 times.
After that, full throttle VTEC operation in 5th gear and 6th gear will further flatten the burrs and cure it completely.

I found some earlier post of yours on this and I went to my car and tried this. OMG IT REALLY WORKS!!!!!!! Thanks you Billman so much, you saved me at least $1,500 today. God Bless you for being willing to share what you've learned about this car.
PS: Not only did you tell how to fix it you told me how to change my bad driving habits. I'll never forget this.

now go find some open road....in 5th gear, hit the gas wide open to 7k or so, coast to 6k, hit it to 7k, coast to 6k, and so on. Hit the the throttle hard and pin it.
this will flatten the burrs.

All gear syncros and collars are designed to be slowed down, or sped up a small amount by the gear next or behind.
When you skip shift, say 4th to 6th, the gear speeds are different by a larger amount, resulting in beating up the teeth on the collar and the syncro.
If you want to safely skip shift (I say its laziness), just row the trans through the gears you want to skip.
Example: wide open to 9000 RPM in 2nd gear, and you want to go to 6th. Just put the gear shifter into 3rd, 4th, 5th, then 6th without letting the clutch out.
This will not harm the trans at all.
