Valve adjustment nut came loose, cant find. HELP
So I decided to redo my valve lash today and everything was going great until I started going down the road.. I noticed a tapping sound simular to a bad tct.. And popped the valve cover now one of my valve adustment nuts are missing. I thought everything was torqued back down but I guess not. Long story short I am a moron.. Anyways when I looked at the cam and valves everything appeared to be fine outside of the missing nut. I only went down the block and back before I noticed it. My question is can a nut that small go into the oil passages from the head? It was on cylinder 4, on the exhaust side, closest valve to the fire wall. I really dont want to take off the cams if I dont have to but im starting to think I might. Does anyone know where it might of gone. Again I am a total jackass and really want to get back on the road again =( Thanks guys.. my poor s..

Drained the oil, couldnt find anything. Inspected head completely (left cams in), couldnt find anything. Pretty much put a magnetic pickup tool anywhere i could find. next step is to drop oil pan.. Should I just say screw it and just buy a new nut?

I agree I just dont feel like removing the oil pan and then finding out its not even there. But if there is nothing else I can really do then I guess I have too.. Im almost for sure its stuck in the oil strainer lol.
Does anyone know a good tutorial on removing it or just use the manual?

Tutorial for dropping the pan? Look at the banjo bolt DIY.

I assume you already tried sticking the magnetic tool in the drain hole.

yelp. Drained the oil and got a wire with a magnetic on it and put it anywhere possible. I focused on the hole next to the valve though and no luck. This is honestly the last thing I would of ever thought to happen. Yeah my next step is to pull the pan which i am hesitant of doing. Appreciate the help with the link.

FOUND IT.. Was sitting at the bottom of my oil pan like I suspected.. I did have to take off the oil pan to get to it though. Definitely sucked. Any pointers on resealing oil pan? Rtv be fine? Should I do anthing while its off..

could weld in a baffle if your in there, or if its a MY00-early 02 do the banjo bolt upgrade.
to reseal use the permatex gray sealant lay a bead about the size of spaghetti all the way around the pan edge, put the pan on and tighten it so the sealant just reaches the edge, wait 30 min for the sealant to set a bit then TQ to spec in the correct order
also make sure to use the correct length bolts in the correct holes
