Default Keys

I have MY00 Honda S2000, with original keys.

They have been described to me as 'cylinder' keys.

Speaking to a friend, I've been informed that from circa 2004/5, Honda S2000 keys were 'laser' keys, and as such, if you were getting a replacement key, you need to make sure that you get the correct type.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Is anyone able to post up a picture of their key, preferably with their model year, so we can compare !

Here's mine - MY00

Thanks
Bharat

I don't know about what the different designs or types are called, but the S2000 did definitely change over at some point, possibly MY04.

My MY03 had keys like yours Bharat, but my MY07 has the later version.

Not sure about laser cutting?? just had one sorted for my MY05, Honda wanted somthing stupid like £200 for the key and programing, i found a key on Ebay for £8 got it cut at a litte key shop in Bury St Edmunds for £8 (they used a little device that i have never seen before but it wasn't a laser) and a mate from Honda programed it for £20 for me.

here is the Ebay link to the key http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Honda-S...item4cfe82c8a4

hope it helps

Later ones are laser, Honda fitted their own alarm system and the upgraded keys came with it, plus a £170 price tag for replacement.
The type of key you show a high street shop ought to be able to do, if it's an early chipped key they will be able to tell you if it can be programmed.
You will know the difference with a laser key, it looks completly different.

If I buy one of those facelift keys do I have to get it programmed? (for an '02) What's the programming for exactly if you have a fob?

Im not sure mate but the metal is alot thicker than a normal key.

From what I have been told the Immobiliser and the alarm run separately not 100% on that though

All the cars have an inbuilt immobilizer via the ECU (green light in the dash).

You have to get the keys programmed with your own unique code, so that the key can disaable the immobilizer circuit, thus allowing you to start the car.

The alarm (especially aftermarket ones) may well have an additional immobilizer circuit, totally separate to the in built one.

Thanks - your key is completely different to mine, which means that I need the earlier 'cylinder' keys instead of the newer 'laser' keys.

Well worth knowing, as I was very interested in these
