Default Turbo + Quiet ?

Hi guys,

I'm getting turbo' this year.

Setup is about
log
GT30R (3071)
3"DP

I'm running an HKS HiPower right now, seems too small for the turbo if I wanna reach 400hp...
What are your advices about the new catback if I wanna stay as quiet as possible ?

Thanks, and cheers !

I'm close to finishing my turbo build on my S. I have FullRace Prostreet kit that came with 3" downpipe and midpipe. I had the dual HKS Hi-Power exhaust from before, and really like the look and sound of the HKS silencers. So I made a new complete exhaust in stainless steel, and used just the silencers from the HKS exhaust. 3" all the way from turbo to appr. the diff, and divided into 2x 2,5" to the silencers and out. Even though I have just driven the car out of the garage and back in, I can tell you it's not quiet. Really nice sound, but I will probably add a silencer just before the diff. Going to drive the car a few weeks to see first though.

A few pics:

You can easily make >400whp on the stock exhaust, and surely the HKS, if you choose the right turbo setup. I wouldn't worry about changing exhausts unless you find one used for cheap. In terms of $/hp, exhausts aren't be best place to put your money. Spend the same money on a better turbo manifold and you'll make lots more power at lower boost pressure.

I have always choosen to run stock exhaust with a boost actuated cutout. Done right it drives just like stock until you give it a little STICK!!

You can set the psi at which the cutout opens. So yes, essentially when you punch it, it will open and when you're off boost it closes

Any issues with the pressure actuated cut outs getting stuck?

I have had experience with both manual and electric cut outs and have never found one that performed up too par for me, they all would leak and become hard to open/close as the carbon builds up around the butterfly plate.

turbo setup muffles sound to begin with. if its still too loud, vibrant ultra quiet resonators work really well. my setup is very quiet unless i get into boost then twin external wastegates = loud turbo sounds.

I have a similar setup to MismyS, but have an electronic cutout. I had gone through multiple exhausts and could never get the drone to fully disappear, so the stock exhaust was the best option. I like the electronic cutout because I can open it whenever I want, which makes me a bit of a ricer, but I don't care. lol
