Awful 2nd gear transmission grind
Just picked up a 2003 GPW S2k a month ago with 27000 miles. Hardly ever beat on by previous owners, if at all.....so why the hell does the transmission grind into 2nd gear if I hard shift from 1st to 2nd? It's kind of rediculous. It's weird because if I hard shift while the car had just warmed up and was ready to go, it won't grind from 1st to 2nd until about the 5th time I've done this (BTW this is happening at 9k redline shifting). It's so strange, the car is like brand new I don't understand. It shifts like butter everywhere else at all times. Car has been serviced by honda it's whole life. Shouldn't the honda MTF be in there?

Change the clutch fluid.
Set the clutch rod under the dash to zero freeplay. Only the master should have its built in freeplay. Remove the play in the linkage only. Loosen the 12mm nut and turn the rod with your fingers to remove the play.
Also, make sure you push the clutch all the way to the floor BEFORE you pull the shifter out of first.
Do all this, you have an 80% chance of getting rid of the 2nd gear grind.

Wow someone from long island lol what part are you from? I'm in nassau.
I'll try that later, thanks. Will it effect daily driving at all?
Also, where is the bolt and the rod that you're talking about? I don't want to loosen the wrong thing lol.

If you live near billman I would become a very good friend of his lol if anyone has knowledge about these cars its him. By just reading his posts I can tell he's very mechanically inclined with all cars not just the S.

Look under the dash, at the pedal assembly.
Depress the clutch with your hand, and look where the clutch arm stops when it is let back out. You'll see a threaded sensor(Clutch rod) with a 12mm nut to lock the rod in place.
Loosen the 12mm nut, then thread the rod towards the clutch pedal, until all of the "play" is out of the pedal. You will be able to feel when the play is gone, the pedal will feel "tighter".
