I have heard the noise when cold as well, but this is on cars where the TCT is really bad, or the timing chain needs replacing soon.

It occurs predominantly when hot however.

Has anyone used the 'listen to a screwdriver method' with a long screwdriver on the TCT casing to see if its the TCT thats making a noise.

This method may seem odd but it does work on some things.

The noise does not emanate from the TCT, but from the timing chain.

My S and your S have similar mileages to Lovegroova's S. He had his timing chain and guides replaced this year, and his engine now purrs...I think I'll be replacing mine (DIY) over the winter.

I'm thinking it could be that, seems to be coming from the front face off the engine e.g maintaince hole side.

I think though 'listening' before theres something rattling from the supercharger but its just difficult to pin point - it could be coming from anywhere.
