The J's header does not have CARB EO#, so yes you will need to remove it to pass visual.

Does the Berk HF CAT have a CARB EO#? If not, that needs to be taken off as well.

Comptech should be exempt, but make sure you have the label or can provide the smog tech with the correct paperwork.

Berks doesn't have an carb # either... Headers does it really have to be removed??? I thought as long as I have an cat after it then it should pass????

I think something like a header is hit or miss depending on where you go. I had cars with aftermarket headers and intake smogged with no problem. There has also been times where a smog tech looks for ever carbEO sticker possible.

You will most likely fail the visual inspection with that header on. The header & the cat are the only things that you need to worry about. I want a J's header!

If you can find a smog tech who doesn't care about the visual as long as the emissions passes then u can probably leave the header on. But the HFC most likely will fail the emissions part. I had my smog last year with an AEM V2 cold air intake (it did have a carb #) and a JVT header (not sure if it had a carb #), and invidia V3 cat back exhaust and I passed the emissions, so he let me go. I forget which shop I went to.

But Vu is right, if the smog tech goes by the books, you will need to remove the header and HFC. Good luck, the header is a PITA to remove.

Anything before and including the Cat is considered part of emissions, so legally it must have a CARB EO#. If the smog tech doesn't care or doesn't notice, then that obviously doesn't matter.

Thanks everyone.. Yes I'm trying to Avoid taking the header out. I have no problem with the cat....Guess I'll try to find a tech that don't give a shit.

He will be able to leave the HFC cat in if has a CARB E.O. # (and cat installed so EO# is pointed down). Just a side note, if the HFC is more than 3 years old it will probably fail tail pipe emissions, but that is just my experience.

He may still fail with the Berk HFC. The cat is easy to take off tho.
