Default 17x9 w/ 225/45 Too much strech?

Hey guys - I'm driving my self nuts trying to get the right tire sizes for my new RPF1s. I want something that is drama free with rubbing and all. (fenders rolled) I'd like to run a 225/45 up front to minimize the chances of me messing up the fenders. But that seems like a lot of strech to put on a 225 tire. I don't want to end up looking like one those VW guys (used to be one). Does anyone have pictures of a 225/45/17 on a 17x9? I know everyone seems to be running the 245/40 all around, but I'm just too scared thats going to mess up my fenders. Thanks!

Why did you buy a 9" wide rim up front if using a proper tire on it was going to be a problem?

Too be honest because...I dislike the look of the 17x8 RPF1's. Most would agree the 17x9 wheel looks 100% better. If they could put a flat face on the 17x8s I doubt many people would run 17x9 up front. But either way I have the wheels sitting in the garage looking for tires so I'd like to make what I have work. I don't object to 245's all around, I'm sure it would work with the right camber settings and all. The car is only driven 3k a year, so its not the end of the world. I just wanted to see if anyone was running the 225/45 setup.

The 225/45R17 will fit on the 17X9. They will have a slight stretch but not bad.
If I can help let me know.

Look in the pfo1 thread. I'm running 225's on a 17x9. It looks fine and only slightly stretched like Jim said. Handles good too.

Thanks! So you went with the 225/45 to keep with the stagger? I would have expected with those offets 245's wouldn't have been a problem. Either way it looks great.

225/45 front. You can probably see my fender is slighty tweaked, happened when running a 255/40 front.

Michelin PSS and Nitto NT-01 (per the manufacturers web sites) list max wheel width of 8.5" for a 225 tire.

Is there a 225 for which a 9" wheel falls within the officially recommended range?

I had my tires before I bought wheels. Other wise I would have ran a 255 up front

Might consider 235/40-17. Wider, yes, but 1/2" shorter than a 225/45-17, so might not be much if any more likely to rub. And fits a 9" wheel...
