Default Loftust's Technical Day

With the success of last year's tech day, I am more than willing to devote another day of my life to these wonderful cars

Aims:

This technical day is designed to aid those who have odd jobs that need doing, would like to see how certain jobs are done, or for those who would like some technical advice, (pointing out where things are etc) so they can go away and do the job themselves with a bit more confidence.

Basically, there are alot of simple jobs that can be done on the S, and are easily achievable with a little knowledge and a smattering of confidence.

The best bit (apart from learning something) is that I will not charge anything, and do not expect to gain anything personally from this.

Location:

Waltham Chase. See further posts for more information.

Timings:

Date: Sun June 26th

Start time: 1000

End time: 1500

Own food/drinks required to last the day.

No one has to remain for the whole day...you are free to leave once you have learnt what you wanted to. I promise I won't be offended

Potential Jobs:

TCT changing
TCT sandblasted wormgear changing
Oil/Filter change
Spark Plug renewal
How to jack the S safely
Wheel Removal
Discs/Pads (I aim to do one full set only, otherwise it'll run into the night )
Coolant renewal
Idle Speed Control Valve/Throttle Body Cleaning
Removing the airbox for an induction kit
Removing the dash instruments
Removing bumpers
Changing Exhausts/Cats/Decats
Diff/Gearbox Oil

This list is by no means exhaustive, other jobs can be done too, within reason, and time permitting. Please suggest any that you think may be helpful, even if you have no intention of attending

NO HEAD GASKETS, CLUTCH CHANGES, ENGINE SWAPS, DIFFS OR HOODS

Misc:

For those worried about my credentials...yes I am a blithering idiot on the outside, but promise you that I only do jobs where I know what I am doing. I have maintained my own motorbikes and cars for 7 years, and am an Engineer by trade. I'll also have the service manual to hand

Jobs will be prioritised on a first come, first served basis. I may defer some jobs in order for engine bays to cool down.

Please identify what you would like to see, have done, or like to talk about next to your forum name

Attendees:

Sadly I will be at a 40th bash in Birmingham that weekend but I can highly recommend this.

Matt was very helpful in assisting me in dismantling my S last time and even let me put some of it back together again and nothing has fallen off yet

Its great if you lack confidence in these things...and I've even changed my own brake pads as a result.

Give me a shout if you need a hand doing anything Matt. If we are able to get a car there the night before I can always do a valve clearances demo should anyone want one. -

NOTE - Wife due back from Afghan on or around the 26th.... might get a bit upset if I choose this over her so will only be able to confirm the day before probably

Cheers mate Valve clearances are one thing I don't do, and your assistance would be much appreciated

No worries regarding SWMBO...maybe I should make a few phone calls so she returns on the 27th?

I went to the last one organised last year - really informative and I wasn't treated like the simpleton (with cars) that I am, so defo aim to be there.

Could the day include dif level check and/or oil change this time please?

The diff check/oil change is MUCH easier on a lift, so hopefully we can achieve this
