new Speed Engineering Directional Vented Rotors now available!
We are very excited to release the new Speed Engineering Directional Vented Rotors:
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc.../brake_rotors/
Two piece rotor technology at a one piece rotor price: The Speed Engineering rotor surpasses the performance of any other single piece rotor for S2000.
Factory style rotors, and all other aftermarket one piece rotors currently available for the S2000, use non-directional radial or straight vanes (see diagram below). This is ideal for cost savings as only one casting is required for either left or right rotors (the rotor can be mounted on either the left or right of the car). Directionally vaned rotors are much more of an effective design for thermal dissipation as air flow is actively pumped from the center to the outside of the rotor. This active pumping of air can decrease rotor temperatures by more than 100 degrees F dramatically improving brake rotor and pad durability and life as well as improving fade resistance on the track.
This design requires two separate castings for either left or right for a one piece rotor - usually making the approach not cost effective. Despite this, the Speed Engineering rotors are priced aggressively and similar in price to standard non-directional vaned rotors.
The Speed Engineering Directional Vented Rotors feature vanes that are directionally oriented for both the left and the right rotor to allow air flow to be pump from the inside out. The center reverse mounted hub of the brake rotor allows the most air to enter and be sucked through the disc under vacuum.
Time Trial and Spec Class S2000s Rejoice! - A competitive advantage while improving brake durability and decreasing cost to track your car.
The cooler running rotor will allow more consistent brake performance, increased durability, and a longer use life. Especially important to Time Trial and other "spec class" S2000s, this rotor is factory sized and not 2 piece, so no additional class points deductions required.
Each rotor has a top quality Dacromet surface coating. Unlike simple paint applications used by aftermarket manfactures, the Dacromet coating is far advanced offering superior general corrosion, bimetallic corrosion resistance, and solvent (such as brake fluid) resistance keeping your rotors looking fresh. Each rotor has a fine cross hatch machined for easy brake pad bed-in, and feature a unique J hook slot design to offer outgassing and sweeping of material from the brake pads
Rear rotors are available in the same factory solid design (non vented with matching J hook slots as the front rotors).

We have tested most pad compounds available on the market. Our preference depends on how you use the car.
For street use:
Hawk HPS

For street use with very light track use / autocross use (light dusting / light squeal):
Hawk HP+
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...ts/S2000/Hawk/
For track use with some street use (some dust / some squeal):
Carbotech AX6 Panther Plus
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...000/Carbotech/
For dedicated track use (very rotor friendly compared to any other race compound we have used):
Carbotech XP10 front, XP8 rear

These rotors are less expensive than good quality brands like Powerslot and DBA from well priced resellers like the Tire Rack. There will always be less expensive blank rotors available however you're comparing apples to oranges.
