A Diamond in the rough....
So i was driving down rt. 44 in Raynham enjoying the good weather on sunday when i drove by this abandoned lot of big trucks and junk. As i drove by this little blue thing happened to catch my eye. So i immediately turned around and ran back through the old rusty trucks to find this...
Its a 1985 honda CRX. I cant tell if its an Si or not since the rear badges have been taken off. All i can gather from under the hood is that its carberated. But from 85 I think even the Si model was carberated. The rear quarter panels are in decent shape but the trunk is dented in. The front bumper is cracked,a nd the hood has rust holes. The whole car is filled with scrap metal, but the interior appears to be complete. Its sitting on steel wheels and donuts with shot tires.
I managed to find the owner and talk to him. In 1999 The car was towed to this guys shop ( now the abandoned lot ) with a broken timing belt. The previous owners says it broke at limerock while driving in an SCCA event. The owner decided not to fix it, and gave the car to the shop in trade for some other service which we did not discuss. This is the coolest part about this car! It was actually raced frequently at SCCA events around new england says the owner! Its been sitting untouched for so long, I just had to have it. So we are going to talk money today, I think he will take a few hundred for it since it was going to scrap anyways! Ill update when I get this thing back to my house!!

I love big projects! This will definetely be a 2012 project, But i cant pass up the chance to own this. With the broken timing belt im unsure If im going to try and salvage this motor or if Im going to look into swapping to a D series engine

ooh ok! I think im gonna stay with D series for the cost factor. A D series swap can be had for under $500. Being that this car is carberated I think I need to switch to new fuel lines for fuel injection, and I want to keep this a budget resto. I bought it because I love 1st Gen CRX's not because I want another race car/money pit.

Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice find, my money is it is a 1.5, the blue/grey with red stripe was a very popular color combo for the 1.5
I had an '87 Si, I loved that little car, but I traded it to get a '90 CRX-Si
And, I consider myself one of the smart ones as I never let my '90 Si go
I would post a pic, but I have yet to figure out how in the heck to rescue my lost gallery since the so called upgrade
Seriously, that is going to be a big project, but I for one encourage you to go for it, and stick to it until you are done
The GEN1 CRX is an iconic car and if that is indeed a 1.5, you have what to me is, and will always remain, THE CAR that started Honda onto the path of making such awesome creations as the NSX and S2000
