how to set timing!

Default how to set timing!

hey guys im in the middle of doing my retainers, and i need help setting timing. what notces on the bottom pully should i use. there is a pink one and white one.

two lines on the gear opposite of each other line up flat with the cylinder head.

im talking about on the bottom crank pulley. there are a few marks down there and im wondering which one you need to be lined up with the arrow

i didn't have that info when i replaced my cylinder head so i just took a metal coat hanger and dropped it in the #1 spark plug hole and turned the engine over till the end of the coat hanger reached it's highest point. thats TDC.

okay awesome, and one last thing. what are the torque specs of the brackets on top of the caps?

if you're referring to the cam towers, it's not a whole lot. somewhere around 20 lb-ft if not less. but i don't remember exactly.

Yeah that's what I was referring too. We torqued them down to 16 lb ft. I found what they where supposed to be at. Now I ran into a MAJOR problem. At first the car started fine, then the 2nd time I started it it had a weird sound. Then I continued on my way home and 15 min later I stopped at wawa and now my cel is on and my car won't start. Its making a weird grind sound after 2-3 cranks. I have no idea what's wrong. I'm terrified something is broken.

i would pull the head and check your work might not have put a retainer back on corect or tighteden something down correctly....

Pull the valve cover. Don't touch the key anymore.
