AP1 Steering rack swapped into Ap2
I have tried searching but found no info on this topic. Does anyone know if you can do a direct swap? I am interested in having the quicker ratio of the AP1, which is the same as the CR in my AP2.
If it is a direct swap, has anyone tried this, and if so, can you post your findings? I will be remaining on stock suspension for now, and would just keep an eye out for a stock AP1 rack. Any major draw backs running a quicker rack, with a stock AP2 suspension. I know they slowed the rack on Ap2 to make the car less nervous and twitchy, but ultimately the car could feel/be faster with a quicker rack.

It is a big difference in ratio between AP1 to AP2. I know I swapped an STI steering rack into my WRX, and it was night and day. That was a 14:1 STi replacing my old 15:1 WRX. Huge difference. Best mod. I would assume it would be just as big of a difference for an AP2 to swap, especically considering that the CR went back to the AP1 ratio.

I haven't been keeping up with subaru's these days, but the wrx should be a 16.5:1 and the sti is around 15:1. With the ap1 and ap2, it's about a whole point difference so should be similar, but not as pronounced as the wrx/sti difference.
The ap1 rack should be straight bolt on since you have an ap2v1.

Thanks guys, yea sorry you are right about the ratio's, I should have known that...haha. I would still expect a noticeable difference in the S2k.
I def want to hear some input from someone in an AP2 that is utilizing the faster ratio.

No worries, keeping up with ratios on the cars are always difficult. too many numbers to throw around. I had a steering column upgrade on my subaru that made it 11.5:1.
I purchased an ap1 rack from a friend of mine who wanted to use it in his 06+ ap2, but found out that it doesn't work with teh VSA and such. I'll be installing it soon and I'll report back when I get it done.
