Has anybody ever tried to see if we can get collector plates? I know the s isn't the rarest car but its not to common.

I believe that you will find that it won't qualify and if it did I think it would restrict the amount of driving.

On of my friends has colector plates for his 2003 Mustang Mach1. Don't know how many of those are made but if the mustang qualifies then so should the S.

I do think they have some restrictions on driving

I have had them on a couple cars. Your S will npt qualify yet, but really no perk on that car.

Called the BMV today. Was told the production number was 8000.
Based on the published sales figures, 2006 and later, North American models of the S2000 should qualify.
It's just a matter of finding where to get a letter from Honda stating the production figures for your year of the North American model.
I've called NA Honda Customer Service, and they weren't able to help. I'm trying the dealer up route now.
Anyone have a friend who works for NA Honda that might be able to help us get letters for our cars?

edit:The other way to qualify is to show you've spent more than $5K on upgrades to the car.
I just spent $1100 on a Gendron Bar, told the wife I need to spend more money on the car, not sure she bought it though

Scoots' link is dead. Here is the new BMV link. It's hopelessly nonspecific, though. Tom's info above is great!

Goggle search provided sales numbers, which are current and updated through October 2011. The only years, according to the data provided, that falls below 8,000 for US sales are the following 1999,2000,2003,2004,2005 and 2006. 2001 and 2002 both exceed 9,500 units sold in the USA. These are sales numbers and are provided for all countries that sold units.

Found the thread I was looking for...

So, I'm wondering... we need what.. proof of how much we spent on the car? Production numbers? Proof of mileage?

Has anyone here actually been successful getting Collector Plates?

Would also like to know this...

Mocky - I wonder if we would qualify on the basis that only 699 CR's were ever made? I would think that would be enough.
