Soft top replacement

Soft top replacement
I had my top replaced by Honda in January under warranty.
At the time noticed there were some lumps just above the side windows near the front, thought maybe I hadn't noticed them before.
After a bit of motorway use with the top up I felt there was more wind noise than there used to be so investigated and found that I can push my hand under the soft top above the side windows
Then the penny dropped, the lumps I could feel are the fixings for the ends of the tension wire pulled through into the seam.
Yes, they have forgotten to re pop rivet them onto the frame at the front so there is no tension in them to hold down the sides of the soft top hence the wind noise
At the other end they have a spring attached to exert pressure on the wire, this is loose and doing nothing.
If you have experienced increased wind noise after a top replacement check this one out.

I decided to have a go at connecting up the tension wire myself.
Removed the rubber seal - one screw then just pulls off
Remove the S/S seal holder and carefully pull the hood material back
Here is the tension wire - not connected
Pop riveted in place correctly
I found while doing it that none of the seals were properly seated.
Also, the S/S seal holders have slotted holes so are adjustable to a degree - if you are having a problem with leaks or wind noise it might be possible to loosen the screws and push them out to make a better seal with the window.

how long did it take to get to that stage as i have a leky roof seal and would love to try a diy fix if honda wont replace?
Any more pics on how you undid the roof?

One screw to remove the front one (arrowed) then the seal simply pulls off.
The centre one pulls off - no fixings, the rear one you can pull off from the front leaving the back end attached.
Do this with the roof two thirds down.
If you are looking to adjust them first make a note of where there is poor contact - this is easy to see if you have greased them recently.
Loosen the S/Steel seal holder and push it out towards the window at those points.
Replacing the rubber seals is a bit fiddly, locate the outside edge first after centralising the position, then push in the inside edge.
Finally push the rubber outside edge in with your finger or a blunt flat tool so that the rubber tucks under the frame and it seats in the channel properly(see arrow).
They are also positional lengthwise, so if you have a gap where the seals but up against each other it might be possible to make the joins a bit more air tight.
There isn't a lot of adjustment in the holder, probably 5mm, but it could be enough to make a difference.
