Default What sensor is this?

What is the sensor that sticks out of the VTEC solenoid? Is it really needed?? It's the one that looks like it's directly above the oil filter. JDM engines don't seem have it...

Thanks

I belive that is the VTEC oil pressure sensor. As similar in B series engines, it is responsible for determining if there is sufficient oil pressure to activate VTEC.

i can't imagine they wouldn't?? it could be in a different location. that picture doesn't show us much since it isn't close up, though it looks like that sensor is still there.

If you look at the HYPER REV mags none of the F20C's have them. I will try to take picsof the mag (kinda Ghetto) but none of them have it. In place of that sensor (brown/blue wire) is a bolt.

Is it really necessary to have??

On a stock car, it's really necessary. try and run with it unplugged. The CEL will be on instantly, and VTEC will not work.

I don't understand why you would consider/question removing a sensor because a JDM spec engine might not have it or have it in a different location. Honda includes this sensor with most, if not all of their VTEC engines, it's part of the VTEC operation, leave it alone.

I ask this question because my friend's JDM F20C does not have it. That picture is of my friends car.

Another JDM engine (doesn't have it):

Here is my other friend who has a F22C. His of course has it.

Then there is my OTHER friend who did his USDM swap in an AE86

As far as it being in another place I personally haven't checked my friend car but I will. There is a bolt in place of that sensor. Personally the engine bay looks that much better W/O it cuz it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Is there a way I can take the sensor out, plug it up and then short/splice the two wires together... Has anyone tried it??

Yeah I know I'm kinda pushing the issue but you have to agree it does look better w/o it.

My friends and I are trying to UNITE Toyota and Honda

I don't know what's up with the JDM but the parts computer says:
"Switch Assy, Valve Timing Oil Pressure"
