I have a well-worn pair of sneakers that are quite comfortable to drive in. The current style with all of the heel, ankle and tongue padding is uncomfortable, it seems all that padding gets in the way. While they are nice for walking, they just don't work for me as a driving shoe.

I usually wear a leather hiking shoe at work, it's not overly dressy but not overly casual either, and it gives good support on the concrete floors. It's not the best for driving my S, though.

At home I wear a pair of suede moccasins as slippers.

I have a pair of Etinies (skateboarding sneakers) that I wears around the house. They were on sale and my son insisted that I buy them. They're pretty comfortable.

My favorite sneakers are my "oil changing" sneakers. They're old New Balance sneakers, with holes everywhere. Half of the lace eyelets are ripped though, and the sole is separating. Perfect for working on the car.

During the week I wear dress shoes to work.

For walking: New Balance walking/jogging shoes
For just around the house/errands, etc.: Clark's clogs
For summer: Clark's sandals or flipflops or my favorite: barefoot [that's 'cause I'm a southern girl ]

Peter Egan of Road and Track wrote a great column years ago about the progression of running shoes. He gave the chronology of the life and role of his shoes from daily running, to casual walk-arounds, to garage sneakers, to yard work sneakers, to painting sneakers. In his usual fashion, he made you laugh and even feel sorry for the slow decline of the Running Shoe, once noble and clean, full of hope and the source of inspiration for a new fitness program.
