Default SOS new high-boost pulley setup w/PICS!

Ever since I got a 3" pulley for the SOS kit, I've never been successful in preventing the belt to hold on the track. Under sustained load @ high RPMs, the belt would snap in under 30 seconds of use. I played with many setups over the last 2 years including carbonite coating, Reichard Racing pulleys, going larger diameter both crank and blower side and everything else in between.

In desperation, I took it to the next extreme! Enjoy

Big thanks to Lee as ASP Racing for machining all these parts.

8" 10-rib crank pulley!

Comparison to SOS 5.45" pulley

To put things in perspective:

Shorter crank fasteners, spacers for blower mount and new bolts

Due to spacers needed to extend oil feed line. This is a 13" line

4" blower pulley and new idler

Custom waterpump pulley with offset face

All fitted up. Note the tight clearance between the crank pulley lip and steering rack boss. Had to buy some steering rack spacers to get enough clearance to slip belt thru.

Overview:

Pulley installed

New oil feed line. Also had to add 90 deg fitting for the return line. Note the notched frame.

Spacers to offset w/crank pulley

Idler arrangement. Very tight fit!

Wow, that is some seriously impressive engineering and problem solving. You could have kept the diameters the same and gone 10 rib, probably solving the problem, but you've taken it to the max to hopefully smash belt slip once and for all. And going the route you have means you have much more scope now to shrink the blower pulley. Best of luck.

that's awesome should be good to go putting your old crank pulley to work and looking forward to putting some miles on the car as it has been down for 2 months. how much would the water pump pulley cost me? would like to be able to replace the serpentine belt without taking off the crank pulley

Wow cant believe how much belt slip trouble you have had Great work though Hope you have a light weight flywheel, you probably just added 3Lb rotating mass to the motor, that will help slow things down and gain some traction too

Thanks

Even with larger crank pulley your had belt slip? Dang. The new setup is good for 30 psi lol. No more slip evar

The waterpump pulley was about $130 IIRC. All my pulleys were machined by the guys at ASP Racing Anything you need here, they have drawings on hand.

The 10-rib setup is a real challenge, as belt sizes are very limited. For anyone thinking this route, I recommend a 8-rib setup.

I do have a light weight flywheel. I suppose I just cancelled the benefits of the flywheel with a bigger pulley on the other side. A compromise worth taking!
