Wayback Wednesday: 450HP S2000 With NSX Engine
A look back at when ECU Performance has built themselves a nice little anniversary present - an S2000 with an NSX heart.
The Ultimate S2K?
The guys over at ECU Performance, a German car builder, wanted to do something special to celebrate their 10th anniversary. So they went and gave themselves a pretty awesome present: this incredible, race ready S2K they've appropriately named the S3500. And there's a reason for that name change, by the way.
The heart of darkness
What lies under the hood of the S3500 is what sets it apart from every other S2K in the world - a heavily modified NSX-sourced C32B V6. The 3.5-liter engine is based on the transverse mounted 3.2 liter of the NSX, hence the name. And it features a slew of performance parts, including a Jenvey single throttle body system and dry-sump lubrication. Those alterations are enough to pump out 450 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque with no additional power adders.
Handling Dynamics
Anyone who's ever driven an S2000 has asked themselves at some point the proverbial question. "What would happen if I added a ton of power?" Followed up by, "Will I upset the car's amazing balance by doing so?" Well, in the case of ECU Performance's S3500 build, the answer is no. The Honda packs a fully adjustable suspension, top-notch brakes, and a ton of German engineering and testing to make sure it handles the curves as well as it goes in a straight line.
Exterior and Aerodynamics
Further aiding handling performance are a host of exterior mods designed to keep it glued to the ground. The massive rear diffuser and carbon fiber rear wing are dead giveaways of this car's intentions. And while your feelings may be mixed on the hardtop, we're sure it's a necessary evil for this FIA E2-SC certified ride.
Staying right where it belongs
With all of the custom work put me into this Honda it's no wonder that the tuner kept the car once the build was finished.
