New NSX

When the second-generation NSX was first introduced to the world, it took the automotive industry's collective breath away. However, it was not very similar to the every man supercar that the original NSX was. With an incredibly complicated twin-turbo setup aided by three electric motors, it's hard to see how the new supercar could be an evolution of the '90s legend.

Reimagined Concept

In addition, I think most of us will agree that by the time the NSX finally made it into production, it had lost much of its hype. And aesthetically, it already felt like it was a generation behind its competition. And Michigan-based industrial designer, Jordan Rubinstein-Towler agrees. And that is why he decided to reimagine the mid-engine Honda as a concept that more closely follows the philosophy of the first-gen NSX.

Paying Homage

The model shows a similar silhouette to the original NSX, but with more sleek and modern lines. Rubinstein-Towler's creation features a front fascia that has a lot of resemblance to the NA1, especially in the headlight area. The concept borrows the look of the pop-up lights in the folded-down position.

Modernized Style

In the rear, the taillight is integrated into the active rear wing, which is a fresh take on the current design language of Acura/Honda. The designer also talks about wanting his concept to be an evolution of the 1990s NSX in regards to the power source. This concept would be powered by a V6.

Simple and Sporty

The simplistic, driver-oriented theme continues inside. Here, the cabin has been visually divided into two sections. One for the driver, where all the controls surround the pilot, and one area for the passenger, with seemingly no functional elements on the dashboard.

Would You Buy One?

Being the sibling of an actual automotive designer, this writer is often exposed to strong opinions when it comes to concepts such as this. And as such, I've come to develop a certain sensitivity in regards to automotive aesthetics. And looking at this NSX concept it is clear that the level of detail work deserves much to applaud, especially for a personal project. And while there is a lot of room for this design to mature, it does a nice job of paying homage to the spirit of the NSX.
