Street to Track

We waited what seemed like a lifetime for the Honda Civic Type R to reach our shores, and that wait finally ended last year. But the FK8 is so much more than just an amazing street/weekend warrior, as this amazing British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) contender proves.

Building on Success

This particular racer is a co-effort between Halfords Yuasa Racing and Team Dynamics, which runs the team during the five-month offseason. The idea is for this car to build upon the success the FK8 Type R enjoyed during the 2018 season.

Back to the Drawing Board

In that debut season, drivers Matt Neal and Dan Cammish both took home a win each. But the team obviously saw much more potential in the platform, so they went back to the drawing board this past offseason.

Second Place

Meanwhile, Halfords Yuasa Racing took second place in the overall team championship, while Honda finished the season as the runner-up in the manufacturer's championship.

Over the Hump

Those are obviously impressive results for a first-year effort, but as they say, second place is just the first loser, right? Thus, Team Dynamics spent the offseason further developing the team's cars in an effort to get them over that hump.

Fast and Good Looking

"If the Civic Type R BTCC car goes as good as it looks, then we will be confident of strong results this season," said Dave Hodgetts, Honda UK managing director. "After intensive winter development by Team Dynamics, and with our highly talented pairing of Matt Neal and Dan Cammish driving the cars, we are eagerly counting the days."

Competitive Package

"The whole team have worked really hard over the winter to improve on the package that we had in 2018 and this is just exemplified by the new livery, it differentiates us from the crowd and combined with our technical changes should make for a competitive package in 2019," added James Rodgers, Halfords Yuasa Racing team manager.

Race Specifics

Obviously, the team isn't keen to share any specific details on their cars. But we do know that to comply with BTCC requirements, it must have a 2.0-liter engine, 6-speed sequential gearbox, the base car's front-wheel-drive layout, and RML-manufactured front and rear subframes.

Mean and Lean

As great as the "regular" Type R looks, we're especially digging this racing car spec. And we certainly look forward to watching it tear up BTCC this coming season!
