If you could count the number of ways people have tuned AP1 and AP2s the number would probably break your calculator. In the ocean of Hondas, this blue whale stands out.

Grinding up the food chain

If we’re going to be honest, the S2000 lacks power and torque. Not this one. The F22C gets help pumping oxygen through its gills from an HKS supercharger that slams down 351 horsepower to the wheels and 239 lb-ft of torque. While some may still consider this moderate it should be noted the car only weighs 2,550 pounds. In the right hands, it’s a formidable power to weight ratio.

Japanese muscle car

Chunky 285mm section AD08R tires find their way on all four wheels wrapped around 18x10” Volk Racing wheels. The utilization of a square tire setup as explained in other articles by Robi Spec is worth noting here. This car takes advantage of a 50/50 weight distribution, lightweight and the right footwork to chop time off the stopwatch like a power tool.

Why so serious?

The interior of this car looks like a road legal FIA GT car with Recaro racing seats and massive side impact bars that flank the driver’s left and right sides. Gussets provide added strength and give an aggressive look. This can mean business and its business is hunting down lap times and devouring anything slower that gets in the way.

Microns add up

Small details on this car that don’t jump out add up to make a big difference. One of these small details comes in the form of chassis preparation called stitch welding or seam welding. The wing is mounted to the chassis for rigidity but done so in a way where a minimum amount of the wing is left exposed. All of this requires custom cutting and fitting of parts. If you ever wonder why properly built race cars are so expensive…this is part of the answer.

Shock and awe

One of the most overlooked parts of sports cars and racing cars are shocks. For this, Evasive Motorsports utilizes a set of custom valved TEIN SRC coils that deviate from the standard spring rates offered. Front and rear spring rates are just under 900lbs/in. which would be a considered fairly aggressive if it weren’t for the valving. If you’re wondering how much of a difference this makes you’re likely talking a second or two per lap.

Summary

A lot can be taken from this build that anyone reading can apply to their own car. It’s a great example of how a track machine should be built and the type of extra details you need to consider when preparing your own race car. All in all this car is a 10 and a perfect example of what the AP2 can do! Now I just wish I could drive it!
