Eye Popping Price

Pristine, low-mile S2000 examples have been selling at a premium for some time now. But it's been a while since we've seen a truly mind-blowing sales price, something that makes you question why you didn't just store your car in a plastic bubble all those years ago. But now we do, courtesy of a gorgeous Club Racer that recently sold for an eye-watering $76,500 over at Bring a Trailer.

No Surprise?

Of course, the Club Racer is a rare variant on its own accord, with just under units ever produced for U.S. consumption. Then you must take into consideration that only 140 were painted Rio Yellow Pearl. As such, we've seen this combination sell for a pretty penny in the past, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised by this one's $76,500 hammer price.

Interesting History

That's especially true when you consider that this particular car has only 1,300 miles on the clock. And it has a rather interesting history as well. The CR was originally owned by American Honda Motor Company, Honda’s North American subsidiary. It remained in their possession for some time until an employee was able to purchase it, then eventually moved to the selling dealer.

Holding Out

The selling dealer-added around 60 miles to the car over its 8 months of ownership, which is quite a long time for the dealer to own it. But they obviously knew what they had and were probably holding out for a proper price.

Show Piece

Peeking at the window sticker and Carfax reveals a couple of interesting details about this S2000 as well. The window sticker shows "CVA" instead of an MSRP, which stands for company vehicle administration. That means it was used as somewhat of a factory executive car. And that also likely explains the low mileage, as this particular CR was probably more of a display/show piece than anything else.

Fleet Vehicle

The Carfax backs that up by showing that this S2000 was a "corporate fleet vehicle," but it certainly doesn't have the type of use you'd expect from the average fleet car. But that cool little piece of history obviously added a bit of value to this particular car.

Raising the Tide

Ultimately, this gorgeous CR with a cool history is probably worth its hefty sales price. Whether or not it will inevitably raise the tide in terms of overall S2000 values, well, we'll just have to wait and see.
