New Limited Edition 2022 NSX Type S
Perhaps the most special edition of the NC1 NSX will mark the end of its production run.
Final Year of NSX
The second-generation Acura NSX's reign as the brand's halo model is coming to an end in 2022. To send it off with a bang and celebrate all the excitement the mid-engine beast brought to the Honda family, the manufacturer is giving the NSX a last hurrah with a limited-edition Type S version for its final year of production.
Type S Only For 2022
Worthy of note is the fact that all the NSX models built for the 2022 model year will be of the aforementioned Type S variant. And a total of 350 will be manufactured, 300 of which are headed for the United States. The Type S was announced this week at the world-famous Monterey Car Week in California.

A Fresh Face
So what does the Type S have that the previous iterations of the NSX didn't? To start, it receives a fresh facelift. The front and rear have been updated with a new style. Whether the new look is better than the original or not is a matter of opinion. But there's no doubt that it brings a refreshing feel to the vehicle, as subtle as it may be. Let's face it, the NSX's styling was already growing old by the time it went into production. Better late than never!

Power Increase
That's not all, though. The Type S NSX also comes with a power bump of 27 horsepower, bringing the total output to an even 600. The torque sees an increase of 16 as well, adding up to 492 lb-ft in total. In addition, the Type S comes with a carbon-fiber roof panel as standard, which has been a $6,000 option.

Bump in Price Tag
Speaking of pricing, the Type S will be exactly $12,000 more expensive than the ordinary NSX. The starting price is set at $171,495 for the limited-run Acura. The highest-priced package in the list of options is the $13,000 Lightweight package, lowering the car's curb weight by 58 pounds with the usage of carbon-ceramic brake rotors, and carbon-fiber engine cover, and carbon interior trim.

Farewell NSX
We can't help but think that at some point during the decision-making process for the NSX, there was a consideration of seizing production at the end of this year. Still, we're happy to see some enthusiasm pumped into the mid-engine Acura, albeit for the final farewell. It's not looking likely that there will be a successor to the NSX anytime soon, so now might be the last chance to get one's hands on a high-performance Honda. Orders are now open on the Acura website.
