New Civic Hatchback Kit

World-famous Honda tuner Mugen recently unveiled their sporty body kit for the 11th-generation Honda Civic hatchback. The release only features a pair of photos, seen in this slide and the next. And that's all that's needed to get a sense of exactly what the Mugen design team has come up with for the new hatchback.

Homogenous Look

There are some similarities between the Mugen kit and that designed by Honda's own in-house tuner HPD. Both designs create a contrast with the body color with black-painted additions. Interestingly, the Mugen parts look more in-tune with the Civic's lines in some areas than HPD's package.

Sophisticated Design

At the front, the blacked-out splitter is well-integrated into the bottom of the front bumper cover. And the lines flow right into the side of the body, where the add-on side skirts provide visual separation between the factory Civic's (image above) rocker panel and the ground. This gives the car a more sporty stance. And the kit continues onto the rear, starting from behind the rear wheels and stopping at either end of the diffusor. Dual round exhaust tips can be seen confining the factory diffusor, replacing the sculptural design of the stock Civic.

Better Than Stock?

The 2022 Honda Civic's aesthetics have been criticized by many for being overly simple, or even somewhat crude. And the HPD package (pictured above) doesn't do too much to remedy that issue. The Mugen kit, on the other hand, adds a secondary level of detail to the car, making it a more complete design. That's not something we can say often about an aftermarket body kit!

Waiting For the Type R

Comparing the Mugen kit for the 2022 Civic hatchback to what they had designed for the 10th-gen Civic Type R (pictured above), the new Mugen kit will seem significantly tamer. That makes sense, considering the 10th-gen was an exceptionally busy design, the seeming lower energy of the new one makes total sense. We will have to wait and see, though, what Mugen will come up with once the new Type R shows its face!
