Intriguing Battle

Driving Line's always-entertaining Driver Battles never fails to provide us with some great track action, and this new video is no exception to that rule. This time around, however, we're particularly interested in the two cars and drivers being pitted against each other - Hana Burton's brand new 2021 Toyota Supra and Matt Rojana's wicked S2000.

First Timer

Burton specifically purchased this Supra to bring out to Driver Battles, and it's unsurprisingly mostly stock at this point. However, the car does sport an Ings Aero kit, a Versus wing, lowering springs, Advan R6 wheels, and Nitto NT01 tires. The only thing working against her, it seems, is the fact that it's Burton's first time around Willow Springs.

Experience Matters

Rojana, on the other hand, has seen his fair share of track time behind the wheel of his S2000. He's made around 30 separate trips to Willow Springs in his AP1, and the car even has a little bit of fender rash to show for it. And that figures to give him a pretty big advantage right off the bat.

Pros and Cons

Burton's Supra, on the other hand, was built for street use and has only been to the track a couple of times. She admits that she's pretty green in terms of racing, but is also rather confident in her abilities. As far as the car goes, it has a bit of a power advantage but also weighs more, which are elements that will come into play.

Track Vet

The AP1, on the other hand, is running a mostly stock powerplant that has been treated to a header and aftermarket exhaust setup. Aero mods include a J's Racing wing, Voltex front bumper, and a Revamp Composites Challenge Splitter, while the S2000 also rolls on a set of Nitto NT01 rubber.

Close Finish

This battle turns out to be closer than one might expect, however. Burton runs a best lap of 1:35.0, while Rojana comes in at 1:32.5. Rojana credits his win to the fact that he simply knows the track better, though it's clear that Burton could be a lot faster with a bit more experience. But that's racing, as they say.

Rematch?

Overall, this is a very entertaining track battle between two very different cars and two very different drivers. And it's one that we'd love to see a rematch of later down the road, once these two are on more of an equal playing field, experience-wise.
