It's Time for the DC2 Integra Type R To Grab the Limelight

We officially live in a time when most performance Japanese cars from the 1990s and 2000s are worth big money, and that includes the S2000, of course. But there are a few gems out there that are still a decent value, including the DC2-gen Acura Integra Type R, which is one of the greatest, if not the greatest handling front-wheel-drive cars of all time. And that's precisely why Hagerty believes that it's a fantastic value at current prices.

In the video, Colin Comer waxes poetic about the DC2 Type R's amazing and refined handling, as well as its naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that pumps out 195 satisfying horsepower at a lofty 8,400 rpm. It's lightweight, nimble, and packing VTEC technology, which helped it make more horsepower per liter than some supercars of this era.

Important Consdiderations

While Integra Type R prices have risen in recent years, there are still some values to be found, however. As Comer points out in the video, it's important to check the VIN and ensure that it contains "DC2" so that you know it's legit, a common concern since quite a few people created Type R clones over the years.

Signs of Tampering

There are other telltale signs of a DC2 Type R, including the sunroof, rear wing, and Anthracite ITR wheels, but buyers will want to check and make sure all of the VIN tags match and look for signs that they've been tampered with, as many cars obviously have been.

Inside, the Type R features a number of unique items including an NSX-inspired gauge cluster with amber backlighting, Alcantara bolsters, a build number on the center console, red stitching, and a steel shifter knob.

Underneath, the DC2 Integra Type R features a reinforced cross-member, cross brace, and beefier sway bar, which help differentiate it from the much more common Integras of this era.

These days, a perfect, low-mile model from this era will cost you as much as $70,000, though cheaper ones can be found in varying conditions. But for a car that's quickly become a legend in the automotive enthusiast world, the DC2 Integra Type R probably won't get much cheaper than it is now, either.
