Honda Reportedly Developing Sporty RWD EV Coupe
Honda will reportedly use the tiny e to develop a brand new, sporty coupe.
Previewing the Future
The Honda e is undoubtedly a cool little electric vehicle with retro style that unfortunately isn't available in the U.S. Many were also quite intrigued by the automaker's Sports EV concept from some time ago, which was a much sleeker direction for Honda's future design language. But perhaps that wasn't just a pie in the sky idea after all, as new rumors suggest Honda will use the e to create a sporty EV coupe, according to Japanese auto site Best Car Web.

Futuristic Sports Car
While many aren't terribly pleased with the fact that Honda has committed to converting its lineup to electric power by 2030, those that embrace the change will undoubtedly be happy to hear this news. The e is an intriguing product, but most of us prefer something a bit sportier, and this rumored two-door coupe version could just be the futuristic sports car we all want.

Solid Bones
The rumors suggest that this proposed sporty EV coupe will feature rear-wheel-drive and be sized somewhere in between the S2000 and the NSX, with a launch scheduled for the 2024 model year. The good news is, the Honda e already offers a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, so the bones of the proposed coupe are already solid.

More Power?
One thing that may need to be upgraded a bit from the e to the proposed coupe is its powertrain. The e gets by with a rear-mounted 148 horsepower electric motor and a 35.5 kWh battery, which is fine for a commuter, but less than thrilling for a sports car. Adding in another motor would likely be enough to make this a fun and engaging drive, however.

Styling Direction
The e also offers a fully independent suspension, which is intriguing for a sporty version, however. As far as styling goes, most would be happy just to see it look something like the Sports EV concept, which was introduced way back at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, yet still looks futuristic to this day.

Canceled Plans
Most interestingly, Best Car Web notes that this new, sporty, RWD EV Coupe from Honda was supposed to be revealed at the 2021 Tokyo Auto Show, which was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. So if this rumor is indeed true, it shouldn't be long before we see this alleged coupe in the flesh.
