Honda Finally Makes Civic Type R Engine Available to All
Brace yourself! The most desirable 4-cylinder crate engine is no longer exclusive to Honda Racing Line members.
Only For Racing
Before we get too excited, it should be noted that the crate power plant is still not meant for use in road-legal vehicles. The K20C1 setup is strictly designed for racing purposes at this time. With that said, we know plenty of enthusiasts and racers that have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on one of these beasts and unleash their builds onto the race track.
Complete Package
The extensive crate package includes everything needed to complete a swap. Along with the block and turbocharger, it also comes with an alternator. starter motor, a Controls Package with an HPD-tuned ECU, an engine swap harness, and a throttle pedal.
Demonstrating The Capability
The performance potential and efficiency of the K20C1 power plant has, of course, been proven with the Civic Type R itself. The folks at Honda have also demonstrated the capability of the package with a unique 1996 Honda Accord Wagon build. The K20C1 unit swapped under the hood of the Accord brings top-notch power to the classically '90s look of the wagon.
All the Power You Need
The 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is rated at 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Honda mill will surely provide a ton of healthy, reliable grunt across the power band without issue. With that said, the well-known tunability of Honda motors, as well as the presence of a turbo could potentially allow users to squeeze just a bit more out of the unit if they so choose.
Coming Up on SEMA Week
Honda announced their plans to make the K20C1 crate package available to everyone earlier this week, along with announcements about their presence at SEMA next week. As usual, we can expect to see quite a few cool exhibitions from the manufacturer, catering to its core demographic of enthusiasts. They'll be showing off a number of concepts based on the new Civic in Las Vegas.
