Canadian S2000 Receives Chevy Volt Batteries and Tesla Motor
This is what happens when you throw some of yesterday in a blender with some of tomorrow.
Pretty clean under the hood
You've seen engine swaps from all sorts of things and conversions that should never work but they do. However, what has been happening of late due to the proliferation of EVs are those powertrains being transferred to vehicles that were never intended to be anything other than petrol powered.
Big brains behind this build
This Honda roadster has been nicknamed Model S2000 as a nod to the three companies whose parts have been utilized in the build. The collaboration consists of Véhicules Électriques Simon André: an all-electric car dealer and garage located in Trois-Rivières, Institut du véhicule innovant (IVI): a research and development group specializing in electrification, and Jason Hughes’ company 057 Technology that refurbishes Tesla components and makes motor controllers. The result is something that is definitely cool and one of the more enviable conversions we've seen as of late.

Silent racing
So how did they do it? Well once all of the traditional mechanical bits were removed from the S2000 in went two Chevy Volt batteries and then a P100D motor from a Tesla Model S with modifications done to get everything working in harmony. The reason for using the Volt batteries is due to their higher discharge rate over Tesla's battery modules. The battery modules have been separated between the engine bay and the trunk perhaps in a way to evenly distribute weight. The Model S2000 also uses Tesla'a subframe and performance brakes. The roadster now makes 650 horsepower and has beaten Tesla Model S P100D in Ludicrous mode run times. The best 0-60 time has been 2.39 seconds and a quarter mile time of 10.24 seconds.

Fingers crossed for something cool
Some may guffaw at the notion of the S2000 running Volt batteries, Honda and GM are actually working together at this moment to develop and share battery tech for the greater good. Just recently the two companies announced that Honda would invest $2.75 billion into GM's Cruise autonomous driving program over the course of the next 12 years. So who knows where all of this could lead to?

They'll be back for more
Something to leave you all with before hitting the comment section is that those drag times that the Model S2000 is putting down was from a rear wheel drive vehicle that is beating an all-wheel-drive vehicle. What hasn't been divulged about this EV S2000 are range numbers and how long it takes to charge. With the cold Quebec winter nearly here the operation is done for this season but they still plan on tinkering with the car to come back stronger next year with a sub-10-second time.
