If Honda ever decided to make an FK8 Type R roadster, it might just look something like this.

Dream Ride

It goes without saying that the Honda S2000 and FK8 Civic Type R are two of the automaker's finest performance production vehicles in its illustrious history. Which made Super Renders Cars wonder - what if Honda decided to combine the two and make a roadster version of the current Civic Type R? Well, it might look a little something like the render they conjured up here.

Far-Fetched Idea?

The idea is certainly interesting, if far-fetched. Clearly, we could never imagine Honda making a Type R roadster, but stranger things have happened in the automotive world. Regardless, if it did, such a machine would obviously spark some interest from automotive enthusiasts of all types.

Big Change

One of the biggest things we'd need to see from such a machine is rear-wheel-drive configuration, however, which could immediately make it a no-go. After all, no enthusiast worth their salt wants to see a front-wheel-drive S2000-style roadster, no matter how capable the FK8 Type R might be.

Small Compromise

The current Type R's turbocharged 2.0-liter mill is a good fit for such a fantasy vehicle, however, even if it doesn't rev to the sky like the S2000's famed naturally-aspirated powerplants. We doubt too many people would frown upon this choice, however, as that modern four-cylinder provides plenty of power.

Savvy Shavings

The most difficult thing about making a Type R roadster would likely be keeping the weight down. Modern cars are getting heavier by the model year, mostly thanks to all of their fancy safety equipment and technology. But we've seen other automakers manage to shave weight in various areas to compensate, so we're sure Honda could figure something out.

Worthy Alternative

Plus, building a Civic Type R drop-top would present sports car fans with another alternative to cars like the new Supra, which has proven that plenty of people are still interested in such a vehicle. And to us, that makes it worth building, at least in somewhat limited quantities.

Quantum Shift

Alas, this is but a pipe dream, much like the idea that Honda would ever bring back the S2000. Both scenarios are very unlikely, but that won't stop us (or various artists around the world) from imagining a world where people quit buying crossovers and migrate back to sports cars.
