Ashy to Classy

The fifth-generation Honda Civic has long been a popular canvas for automotive customization, though it's getting harder and harder to find one in nice condition to start with. That was also the case with the owner of this stellar 1994 Si example - Roger Dejesus - who picked it up from a friend six years ago. However, in the years since then, he's turned it into an amazing, show-quality rig worthy of a MotorTrend feature - not bad for a car that started out as a rough roller.

Solid Start

"My friend Rick had it for over 10 years before selling it to me as a roller," Dejesus said. "It was painted about 15 years ago and had sat for a long time and thought it needed a lot of work, I figured it was a great start." He kicked off the project by working on wiring and fixing up the interior, but soon it came time to choose an engine. "I wanted something unique and old-school but with some new technology and parts," he noted.

Old and New

That wound up being a pretty interesting combination - a B18C1 1.9L stroker that's fitted with a laundry list of performance parts such as Traum 12:1 82mm pistons, a B18B 89mm crank, Eagle rods, a 4-in-1 header, and a Vortech supercharger, to name just a few. The whole thing is controlled by a Hondata S300 V3 and is mated to a B18C1 transmission fitted with a Comp twin disc clutch and flywheel, as well as an S2000 brake master cylinder.

Updated Cabin

Inside the cabin, Dejesus went to town on his old-fashioned ride by adding Recaro SR4 front and JDM ITR rear seats, a Momo steering wheel, a Spoon Sports horn button and shift knob, an NRG short hub and quick release, R Fab foot pedals and shifter, and S2000 digital gauge cluster, a Circuit Hero footrest, PLM X-bar, and a modern Pioneer double-din head unit.

Suspension and Brakes

Underneath, the fifth-gen Civic features a set of BC Racing coil overs, an ASR subframe brace, front and rear sway bars, a PCI camber kit, trailing arms, toe links, a Blox front traction bar, and an R Fab shock tower bar. Braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood front calipers and GS-R rear calipers, while the hatch rolls on a set of 15-inch Volk Racing TE37SL Super Lap Edition wheels wrapped with Federal rubber.

Jazzing It Up

This particular combination is a potent one - craning out  391 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque on the dyno - making it a rather competent performer. However, while Dejesus left the looks of his ride alone for a long time, he recently decided to jazz it up with a Mode Parfume body kit and a fresh coat of Desert Sage Metallic paint.

Lasting Appeal

Dejesus has spent the last several years tinkering with his Civic and making it better, adding bits and pieces here and there. However, it's pretty clear that the old Si has earned a permanent place in his garage, and we certainly can't blame him - after all, who in their right mind doesn't love a good fifth-gen?
