Really - sometimes the remote (key) would not unlock the doors if I left it parked for a few days. I had to stick the key in the hole, etc & hope the car would start.

Wouldn't that be more of a possible battery issue with the #fob though?

The BMW has no key slot (that I can see) so I'd be in trouble if mine did that.

If you engineer an all electric/computers vehicle, ya need to engineer more of a deep cell type battery system

If that were so then why would it only happen if I hadn't driven the car in a week? The key fob would just stay dead

I could see it being unhappy if it was left for a couple weeks or so untouched, but every other week or few days is nuts. I haven't touched the Fiat in a couple weeks and I guarantee it will start right up with no problem right now. I know that's not the same, but they're both cars.

I'm pretty sure there has to be a mechanical way to get in to the car if the battery is dead -- there should be a piece you can pop out in the driver's side door to expose a key hole, and the key is hidden in the fob somewhere. at least, that's how all the systems i've seen work -- because yours is expensive and german it might be different.
