so if I need only rear tires for a stock setup, would anyone recommend these tires, es100, if you bumped up the size 255? to compensate or are they just not worth it? Just stick with the s02's oem? Will the s2000 drive poorly with different tires front and rear? thanks

I am ordering these Yokohamas in a week. They will be perfect for commute. I drive 30+miles a day so I need a tire that will last vs. performance. The treadwear is very good(just what I am looking for) IMO. These tires will do just fine..Dont get overworked about 1 inch. I will give the tires about a month before I make a judgement on them.

I just got my ES100s in and they are Z rated tires.

Tirerack's website said they were W rated.

I thought I was getting better tires.

I just put on a set of rears and have a set of fronts that need to go on now too. The rears seems to work pretty well, much quieter than my worn S02's, but again I am not an autox'er so I am in it for some good wear and fun cruisin. We just got the big blizzard here in NJ so it was outta commission for a few days, but I am pleased thus far. I just am interested to see how they will look after 15k miles...if they last that long.

Does anyone have any high mileage updates on the ES100's, because I would love to hear how they last. I am not sure but I don't think anyone has ever told of their S02's lasting over 20k miles, so if anybody has this beat, I would love to know.

Thanks

Plan on sustained 168mph crusing?

No, but I wanted softer rubber. W has better grip.

Incubus, I'm interested in this info. Is it stated anywhere that such is the case with the ES100's? I always thought speed rating had more to do with the tire's ability to handle the rated speed, not necessarilly the grip, especially since speed ratings are general in nature and tread wear is subjectively determined by individual manufacturers. One company's 180 is another's 220. Is there a difference in the compound for the ES' as they gain higher speed ratings? It's sort of weird that you got Z-rated tires since Yokohama's own web site list the ES100's only coming in W-rated for 16-inch sized tires and larger.

I am not that educated in this matter, but it is my understanding that the better the speed rating, the better dry traction you'll get.
Maybe this is just a general belief, and it's not defined anywhere.

I am certain that the tires say 245/45/ZR16 (I checked for this post's accuracy). However, there is a 94W after that. This is just reference to the sidewall stiffness (I think).
If that W is the speed rating, then what's the Z for?

Incubus, The speed rating has nothing to do with the traction of the tire. It is the internal construction of the tire. The ES100 tires are W speed rated tires anyway. Look at the sidewall of the tire. After the tires size there is a 2 didgit number and the W. This designates the speed rating. The Z designates any speed 150 mph and up.
