Default Yokohama Apex v601

Any reviews on this tire from the s2k community? I'm looking to downgrade from spending ~$800 annually on a set of re71r.

Buy RS4s instead. They're cheaper than v601s and will perform better too (dry grip). They'll also have much longer life than the RE71R.

How long is longer? I'm getting 9k street/ canyon miles with the 71r.

You could always get Federal RS-RRs. You'll get at least that much mileage out of them and only spend ~$450 for a set of 4. The difference in grip between those and the 71R won't be noticeable on the street.

No clue for that kind of use. For track use, reported life of 71r is around 3 days (4 max), with each day consisting of 4 sessions. RS4 is easily 8 track days - granted, you'll be running ~1.5 second slower laptimes on day 8 versus day 1 tires (on a 2:00 min track).

Even if the R-S4 only lasted as long as the 71R, you'd still be saving +$200 for a set of 4. These will probably be my next set.

Also try checking out the V720.

Lots of reviews onsite comparing it to the RE71r.
They last significantly longer - one reviewer is reporting 30K miles of street/spirited driving, no track driving.

As far as more local experience with them, a track local that I know ran a sub 2:00 lap at buttonwillow CW13 on them - if that means anything to you.
