One reason I went back to 16 inch rims and tires from ap2 rims/tires was for the weight difference, my ap1 felt more sluggish after the ap2 rims/tires were added. I saved 8-9 lbs per wheel/tire combo.

If I recall saving 5-6 lbs is equivalent to making an extra 2 whp , or something along those lines. I don't know the exact ratio but there is a relationship there which relates to a reduced power loss making it to the pavement, I dyno'd different rims on a previous car and the lighter rims always had an improvement.

Very rare, but once in a while I see some 16" CE28 for sale. I think those are under 13 lbs.

Those FD wheels (there are 2 versions) are really light also, had a set on my Mazda3 for a while. They could even work for a S2000 if you bore the center out to 70.1mm for the front.

When I got my JDM OEM ap1 BBS rims I measured them as 12 lbs front and 13 lbs rear.

You'll notice unsprung weight more than sprung weight.

Saving 5lbs on each corner of the car in unsprung weight is huge.

My custom widened 11.5" rpf1 with 295/35/17 package weighs 47lb. That’s pretty sad when the stock ap2 wheel/tire package weighs roughly the same/more.

and just putting that much weight further outward has
to reduce the car's ability to spin it.

I think my car would be quicker with some nice
16" wheels..Tire Rack has some Enkeis that weigh
like 18 lbs. but then I think my handling would
suffer with the reduced tire patch.

Might have to stretch the budget and go with the OZ HLT's
that are 17"ers that weigh 15lbs.!

Eye candy as well whereas the Enkeis to me dont look
that great.
Man... if I didn't need to refinish my current wheels and get new rubber for them as well I would be picking up a set of mismatched colored OZ Alleggreitta HLT (the ones on sale) for track days.

Going from WORK XD9 which were say, 24lb to Wedssport TC105N which are 15lb were night and day difference.

I was so impressed that I won't buy a heavy wheel ever again.

On paper wheel weight should make as big a difference as any weight on the car in acceleration and also in cornering. In real life, it doesn't seem to matter much. I've read a few articles that test wheels back to back with a heavy wheel and a light wheel on the same car on autocross and road courses and each time there is no noticeable difference. In at least one of those tests the car was faster with heavier wheels. I know I go back and forth between CE28Ns and nurburgrings and I cannot tell the difference.
