winters in New England
Hay. it's almost that time of year again and this will be my first winter with my S2000. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions as what tire I will need to survive these shitty New England roads? What is the best tire tire for snowy icy roads? Thanks for your input.

I agree, I have not seen a better traction tire than the Blizzak's. You can either mount them on your OE wheels or I do have wheel and tire packages for under 1,000.00. Let me know if I can help.

Here in Nebraska, I drive my car all year. For winter, I ended up getting some Blizzak's mounted on inexpensive wheels from Tire Rack. Yea, it was in the 1000 range, but it really makes driving in winter easier. Just remember, the car has 4 inches of ground clearance and you will be ok.

Hey guys, I'm looking into some snows, too.
What is the advantage in getting tires with wheels, as opposed to just tires?
I realize that I won't have to have someone put them on the wheels, but is the real advantage in that I won't risk salt damage to my OEM wheels?
Hey Jim, this will be my 3rd order from you.. been happy thus far. I may also need some rear S02s in the semi-near future. I'm thinking that I might get the snows and roll them from like mid-november until end of Feb or beginning of March. How many years can I expect to use these snow tires? I guess how many miles would be a better question.. assuming semi-normal driving. I think I got like 13-15K out of my S02s.
Thanks!

Forget about driving it with S02's if there's anything on the road; salt, sand, or flurries of snow. I had to drop someone off once when the snow just, just started, and I couldn't get the car into 2nd gear with out fish-tailing, and then it would slide for 8' feet at that when the brakes came on. I thought for sure I was going to hit something.
If the streets are clean, you can drive the car, but not like a sportscar, more like very basic A to B transportation.
If you can swing them, a second set of wheels with snow's is the way to go.
It's fun to do the NASCAR donuts in the parking lot in the winter with S02's though, they have so little grip, you don't burn any tread doing it!

fyi,
thinking of selling my oem rims (year 2000) with tires(so2's)..
i am close to buying new rims for my car and won't want the old ones anymore..
tires have 5k miles left on them but the rims would make a perfect winter setup for someone - and cost way less than $1000.
two rims are flawless, one has 1.5" curb rash (front), one has 1" curb rash (rear).. rims really look great, they are not bent, and you can't see damage from 10 feet away. like i said - a perfect winter setup..
(or even take the two perfect ones to mix up with your set if you have a scuffed rim)
if interested make an offer.. starting bid $975 plus s&h....
just kidding.
i'll be ready to sell in a month.. maybe sooner for a fair offer..
