Default Winter Tires: Pirelli Sottozero

Does anyone have experience with the Pirelli Sottozero Serie II on their S? I'd love to hear some thoughts on the tire.

On Tire Rack it is the only option available in 205/225 (for my AP2V1 wheels). Since I'm in Northern Virginia 95% of my winter driving is on cold - but dry - roads, so I need to stick to the Performance Winter category of tire.

On my outgoing Mustang I run Dunlop Wintersport M3s, which have been impressive, but it doesn't seem like the Wintersport line is available in any of the sizes I'd need. If the Sottozeros are close to the Wintersport performance I'm sure I'll be happy with them.

In for answers. I too am in NoVa and looking for a good winter tire. I want to mount them on my AP1 wheels then get some nice wheels in the spring.

They are a performance winter tire that would be perfect for that area. Good handling on dry and wet roads but will give you the winter traction you are going to need. They did win a winter tire test that was done in Europe.
If I can help let me know.

Thanks, Jim. I placed my order during lunch. Looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks Jim.

I'm assuming 205/50 front and 225/45 rear would be the ideal winter setup on the Ap2v1 wheels, correct?

I had my Pirellis mounted on my AP2v1s today. 205/50/17 front and 225/45/17 rear.

Still breaking them in but so far they feel really good. Just need some snow now to really test them.

Keep me posted on how these work out for you this winter. Decided not to bit the bullet this winter on snow tires (in school not driving in snowy conditions) however next winter I will probably place tires on my stock AP1s to have them. Any feedback is appreciated!

I'll be sure to update this thread with my thoughts as I get more miles on the tires. And hopefully some snow driving soon.

Earlier in the week we had the same tires mounted on my fiancee's Focus ST. So far so good.

More thoughts:

Dry grip in cold weather is fantastic. Since I'm running tires a little on the narrow side of things for my AP2V1s, I believe the bit of sidewall stretch is really helping with the responsiveness of the tires. The steering feels sharp.

The ride quality is nice and the noise levels are rather quiet.

Can't wait to get some snow to really test these tires out.

I have them on my ap2, but I ordered them in 16 inch rim/tire package. 16inch rim with thick sides make steering feel vague at low speed, yet very sensitive at high speed. I really don't like it(can't wait for spring), however it is nice on snow.(tested in fredrick MD last week)
On snow, I still got lots of wheelspin (drag raced Audi A4), but traction was good.
