And no, you shouldn't expect any snow tire to perform like the car's OEM tires.

What should i expect to pay for a set of winter tires. (range)

I got an invoice of about $800 on 4 mounted blizzaks from my local tire shop.

if its going to be this much im thinking of getting a beater and selling it when i can start putting the top back down on my S.

paS2K,

Great deal, damn

Do you know if there are any other deals like that?

I just found out tirerack doesnt even have any matching sets in stock.
is it ok to go with different backs and fronts...what are the down falls to doing something like that?

I use different brands back and front. I've experienced no downside. I did this to save a few bucks. The Winter Slaloms that I have on the front are much cheaper than the Blizzaks that I have on the back. Unfortunately, at the time I bought my tires, Goodrich did not make the Winter Slalom in the size I needed for the back.
In Canada, there is a publication that comes out every week called "The Bargain Finder". It is part of "BuySell.com". This is a classified listing of everything imaginable in a given city. Each city has it's own edition of this paper. You may have a similar thing where you live. I have found all sorts of deals using this. eg. I've found 4 near brand new snow tires for another car for $100.00.

I agree with Xviper and many others on this board...that using a different brand on front/back is not a problem. For example, my current 3 season tires are new Kumho 712s on rear and original S-02s on front.

It really depends on how hard you drive it at the limit and how capable you are of managing the difference if any.

As far as Blizzaks being short lived is concerned, i've been using the same set on my winter beater 92 Mazda MPV for 6 years now and while they don't have the tenacious gripe they did while new , they still aren't bad.

Anyone tried the Pirelli 210 winter sport tires? I was trying to find out how they compare to the LM-22. I've used the 210s on my prelude with good results but I'd like to try the LM-22 if they are better than the 210s.
