Default Wider tires and VSA

I have a 2007 with completly stock hieght, suspension and wheels. I read that changing the width of the tires will effect the VSA.
Any truth to that? What size tires can I go with if I am looking for a wider contack patch? I do not want to change anything from stock except the tire width.
Any recommendation on tires? I have no intension of doing track days.

Just do a 255 in the rear. That's as wide as you can go. Fronts leave at 215. If these sizes are ok on the CR I would expect them to be fine on an 06+ Ap2.

Tire width should not be an issue. The problem comes with tire diameter. front and rear tires have to be close in diameter, otherwise the different tire revolution speeds will confuse the VSA system.

I see . So going to an 18"wheel would be a problem?

It will not be a problem if the TIRE DIAMETER is kept consistent, meaning that the tires must be sized properly. e.g., 255/35/18 and 255/40/17 have the same diameter.
