Default Why is Tire Rack so expensive?

I need a set of RE01Rs, checked TireRack and my local dealer....

Rears are 198.99 each, today, installed at a Firestone/Bridgestone dealer. They are $228 each plus shipping and install from Tire Rack, today.

Fronts are 163.99 each, today, installed from the dealer, and $174 each plus shipping and install from Tire Rack, today.

That makes Tire Rack $80 more expensive, and then add shipping and the cost to mount/balance/install.

What is up with that??

Dave

all the pricing on Bridgestone's went up a few months back. I got my last set from tire rack for $165 fronts and 167 rears.

Of course they pay for real estate. That humongous inventory they have isn't stored in thin air

My experience has been different. I always ask local retailers if they match competitors' prices. After they say yes and I pull out Tire Rack's ads, they quickly add "..except Tire Rack".

I agree, their price is usually great which is why I am asking, essentialy, why this is not the case this time.

Sounds like Tire Rack has already responded to the manufacturer's price increase and your local dealer has some tires he bought at the old price.

Tire shopping, I usually check Discount Tire Direct http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do

Edge Racing http://edgeracing.com/

And Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp

I'd agree, Kitty, but this would seem to indicate that Tire Rack raised the price on existing stock, since the tires are not available in the distribution chain, atm.

Note this is not just my local Firestone dealer, but the price at Firestone Company stores USA-wide, at least as of yesterday.

And LOL Edge has dropped the price on the rears from $207 to $194.... hmmmm...

I bought quite a few tires from them in the past and they were usually the cheapest. However, I purchased a set of Michelins for my Civic a couple of months ago and they were about $110 each BEFORE shipping. I ended up getting the same exact tire at Costco for about $104 each, which includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, and disposing my old tires! I never tracked Michelin prices over the years so I don't know if they also had a price increase like the Bridgestones but I thought that price difference was a little ridiculous.
