Default wheels...offsets, sizes?

well, i've been doing plenty research into wheels. i've narrowed it down to the enkei rpf1's, and i was thinking a 17 inch. well, the place i have been talking to says that they have a package for the s2k but they are 17 by 7 all the way around, with the same offset. i definitley want a meatier tire and rim in the back. he told me that they can sell me the 17 by 7 with a 40-something offset for the front, and then either a 17 by 8.5/9 for the back. my concern is that, he mentioned the offsets for the wider rims, and the 8.5 is around a 38, and the 9 is somewhere around an 18, these didnt sound right to me. i'm just not sure how they would look/rub? i was leaning towards the 17-8.5 with the 38 offset. i was thinking that i would need a higher number offset for the back. would this wheels have a large lip or no lip? please help me wheels experts. i leave for deployment next month and i'd like to get this done before then. thanks!

Update:
here are the wheel numbers i found on thier site, hope this could be some help-

17 by 7.5 48 offset
17 by 8 35 offset
17 by 8.5 30 offset
17 by 8.5 40 offset
17 by 9 35 offset

well, according to the wheel offset calculator. i'f i were to go with the 8.5 wide with 40 offset, they would stick out an extra 38mm, and 12mm in front with the 7.5 with a 48 offset. does anybody know how this would look, not sure if anyone has gone with these wheels or has pics of this. thanks!

Read the info in that link again.

You'll see that an 8.5" wheel won't fit with a 40 offset. It's right there in the text.

7.5 @ +48 will work in front, just barely.

It's in the right section. I was just pointing you to the sticky at the top of this forum so you can answer your own questions.

the Enkei japan website has the RPF1 in the following sizes:

17x7 offset 45
17x8 offset 45

The following RS+M sizes are also found in the Japan website:

17x7 offset 45
17x8 offset 48

But the above sizes are NOT found in the US website!

Are the above sizes accessible in the US?

While these fitment questions can get annoying, especially when there is a sticky on the forum for these questions, at least he didn't just buy them based on the bolt pattern .

Every time I read one of these I have to ask myself how many people went out and bought wheels like this because some website said they'd fit? 99% of the websites out there only pay attention to bolt pattern to determine fitment. Tirerack.com is one of the very few that REALLY pay attention to offsets and the like.

It would be an interesting static to see the people who bought wheels that didn't fit because of this.
