Yes, I believe the concensus is that 17's are best for performance. But 18's "look" better... especially if you lower your ride just a tad. But then you're really messing with the performance of the car.

I'm running 19" all around. Haven't noticed a decrease in performance and the car rides
smoother than my Khumo Ecstas.
Did notice a significant decrease in gas mileage though. But still worth it for the looks.

However, keep in mind the tires are lighter because there is less height. Also there are light rims available.
As to performance, I have less sidewall to flex on turns. My present setup performs so much better than stock, there's really no comparison.
I hate to start a p***ing contest, but stories about the evils of 18" rims were started by those who were too strapped to put up the extra bread to buy them!!!!!
