Thumbs up Wheel fitment: I'm Confused

Sorry for starting yet another wheel fitment thread. I looked for a long time but could not find a definite answer.

Its time for new wheels. One of my OEM wheels has a pin hole leak in it.

Anyways I was looking at the Enkie RPF1 in sizes as follows:

Front
17x8 +45
235/40 or 245/40 Dunlop Direza Star spec
(wider tire is an attempt to reduce understeer. Currently have 225/45)

Rear
17x9 +45
255/40 Dunlop Direza star spec

According to this wheel and tire calculator http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

The front tires if 235/40 would fit the same on all sides except they stick out 20mm (0.8inch) farther.

If i use 245/40 in the front they would stick out a full 25mm (1 inch) further and also be 5mm (0.2 inch) closer to the suspension.

With 255/40 on the rears it would stick out 25mm (1 inch) further.

My question is on my car with stock suspension and ride height will they rub? Looking at the tire combination I have right now 225f and 255r on OEM wheels It looks like the tires already stick out farther then the fender and if the suspension where to compress far enough they would rub because the wheel would not fit inside the fender, However this never happens and they never rub. This leads to to believe that the my proposed combo would work as well.

I am a noob to this so thought I better check with you guys first before I spend all my hard earned money.

If you are still reading, thank you very much for the help.

Let me try to simplify the question.

If the stock tires (front and rear) on an S2000 stuck out an inch further towards the fender would they rub? Suspension and ride height are stock.

If you have tried a similar setup I would like to hear how it worked out for you.

Thanks

No, there is plenty of inside clearance. I am running a 9" +55 in the front with a 255 tire, no problem with inner clearance. The outside clearance to the fender is what you have to worry about.

^^ I agree.

The outside clearance is what I'm talking about. I want to know if i will need to roll the fenders which is something i would like to avoid.

Whats you suspension setup/ride height and did u have an rubbing issues?

My mistake, I was thinking of your other thread. I don't really have much experience at stock height, but I would think anything wider than 225 would rub on a 8" +45 front. If you stick with 225/255 you would probably be OK with a little negative camber like Euro spec. If you are set on a 245 front then you would need to roll.

You might consider the OZ Alleggerita. You could run 8.5 +59 all around and 245/255 tires without rubbing anywhere.

Thanks for taking the time to help me Nate. I was looking at the same wheels. I really like them and they are very light also. A bit more money then I was hoping to spend but if they would keep me from having to roll my fenders it might be worth it.

Who would have thought picking out wheels would be so hard.

I just looked it up. 245 tire on a +59 wheel would put me .7 inches closer to the suspension than stock. If you don't think that will be a problem I think the OZ will be the best bet.

That won't be a problem at all. I'd really recommend running the same size wheels all around with a 245/255 combo. You might decide you want to run a non-staggered tire setup in the future or go back to stock stagger, both of which would be possible. This really limits your selection though and there aren't many inexpensive options available. Generally speaking the higher offset the better. SSR and Volk also have a lot of wheels available in 8.5" or 9" with offsets from +55 to +65. Running AP2 rears all around might be your cheapest option but you need to have them bored out to fit over the front hub. You would not need spacers, there is plenty of inside clearance.
